A pedestal marine crane is a type of lifting equipment specifically designed for offshore environments, and is one of the key pieces of equipment installed on ships, offshore platforms, and other floating structures (such as FPSOs, FSOs, and FPUs).
This crane typically features a vertical column mounted on a robust base, which is connected to the hull or platform to provide stable support. The crane also includes a horizontally extending boom and a hoist mechanism for lifting heavy loads. Its boom can be constructed in different forms, such as box boom cranes and lattice boom cranes. Main components like winches, electrical cabinets, or hydraulic power units are usually housed within the enclosed crane base/tower/machine room to protect them from the harsh marine environment.

The lower part (below upper deck T.O.S.EL.+2600) of the crane pedestal, will be located outdoor in Zone 2 IIB T3 hazardous area during scraper launching operations. The crane boom is likely to operate in Zone 2 IIB T3 hazardous area and in Zone 1 IIB T3 hazardous area during wire lining.
Crane's cabin and machinery enclosure are located in safe area.
Nevertheless the equipment shall be classified as follows:
a. All electrical equipment located at the lower part of the Crane and on the crane boom shall be ATEX certified II 2 G for Zone 1, Gas Group IIB, Temperature class T3
b. Other electrical equipment shall be certified ATEX certified II 3 G for Zone 2, Gas Group IIB, Temperature class T3.
c. All instruments shall be ATEX certified II 2 G for Zone 1, Gas Group IIB, Temperature class T3.

Applications
Pedestal marine cranes are primarily used for ship cargo loading/unloading, resupply of offshore platform materials, installation and maintenance of offshore wind power equipment, and lifting of components in offshore engineering construction. They are suitable for a wide range of scenarios:
- Cargo Handling
- Material Resupply
- Port Operations
- Offshore Engineering Support
- Fishing Vessels
Testing
The complete machine testing of the Pedestal Marine Crane shall be
performed in accordance with relevant codes and standards. Typically, it requires a third-party witnessed factory test to be conducted on the fully assembled crane mounted on a test pedestal.
Testing complies with API Specification 2C, and/or the requirements of classification societies such as the ABS, BV, DNV, etc.
A full function and load test is completed for each crane prior to delivery.
The testing includes:
- A mechanical run-in of all main and auxiliary machinery, as well as the control panel, under full-load conditions, with a duration of no less than 2 hours.
- Visual inspections of the crane and its auxiliary equipment both before and after the test.
- Upon successful completion of testing, a corresponding Test Acceptance Certificate will be issued for the crane.
Why Choose Us?
Our Pedestal Marine Cranes are engineered to withstand the marine environment's unique challenges-salt spray, high humidity, persistent vibration and extreme weather. We deliver reliable lifting solutions that inspire confidence among operators, vessel owners and procurement decision-makers.
For us, supplying a crane is just the start of the partnership. Our offerings go far beyond the product itself:
- Deep offshore expertise, with designs grounded in real-world operational insights
- Proven design standards meeting API Spec. 2C and major classification society requirements
- Rigorous quality assurance, manufactured and tested to international marine equipment standards (DNV, ABS, LR, etc.)
- Global service network providing end-to-end support, from selection consulting and commissioning to aftermarket maintenance
- High customizability, tailored to owners'/operators' specific operational needs and sea conditions
What's the Pedestal Marine Crane Price?
We are frequently asked for specific pricing on our cranes. However, due to the highly customized nature of our cranes, it is impossible to provide a one-size-fits-all quotation. Before we can offer an accurate price, we need to conduct a detailed review and clear planning of the actual operating conditions. Only by fully understanding the operational requirements and matching them to the practical application scenario can we design a safe, efficient lifting solution that perfectly meets your needs - any variation in operational parameters can lead to a significant difference in pricing.

Take the crane cab as an example: its design style and the configuration standards of the control interface directly impact costs. The more sophisticated and feature-rich the control interface, the higher the corresponding R&D and manufacturing costs will naturally be.
At sea, every minute counts and every operation is safety-critical. Choosing a marine crane purpose-built for the marine environment is key to ensuring operational continuity and controlling long-term costs.
We deliver robust, efficient, and cost-effective lifting solutions to shipowners, operators, and procurement partners worldwide. Contact us today to learn how our products can meet your specific needs and help you tackle offshore challenges.
