The hydraulic orange peel grab is an electro-hydraulic crane attachment. It gets its name from its orange-peel-like appearance when opening and closing. Specially designed for handling bulk materials in blocky and irregular shapes, it is suitable for working conditions such as waste, stones, scrap steel, metal chips, and construction waste.
- Upper Beam: Connects to the crane hook and bears the lifting load.
- Lower Beam: Serves as the support base for the grab shells and provides hinge points for opening and closing.
- Grab Shells (4–8 shells): Made of curved wear-resistant steel plates, with teeth / anti-slip patterns on the inner side.
- Drive System: Central motor + hydraulic pump + hydraulic cylinder + connecting rods, driven by high-pressure oil.
- Synchronization Mechanism: Ensures consistent movement of all shells to prevent jamming and material spillage.

Working Principle
The hydraulic orange peel grab is driven by hydraulic cylinders. It grabs and releases bulk materials, scrap steel, ores, and other materials through the synchronous opening and closing of clamshells.

Opening
Hydraulic oil is supplied to the rodless chamber of the cylinder → piston rod retracts → connecting rods drive the grab shells to open outward around the hinge points of the lower support beam. The grab is lowered above the material pile.

Inserting & Grabbing
The grab continues to descend, and the open shells penetrate into the material pile.

Closing & Grabbing
Oil circuit is switched → hydraulic oil is supplied to the rod chamber of the cylinder → piston rod extends → grab shells close synchronously inward to firmly enclose the materials.

Lifting with Full Load
The crane lifts the closed grab to the unloading position.

Opening & Unloading
Oil circuit is switched again → cylinder retracts → grab shells open, and materials are discharged under gravity.

Return with Empty Grab
The grab closes or semi-closes and returns to the loading point for the next cycle.
