A marine straight boom crane, also known as a ship-following crane or a straight-armed Kringle crane, is a lifting device installed on ships for loading and unloading cargo. It is named for its straight boom, which is different from folding or telescopic boom cranes.
Main features and advantages:
Simple structure, easy to operate: the design of straight boom crane is relatively simple, the operation mode is intuitive and easy to start.
Good braking: with a reliable braking system to ensure the safety and stability of lifting operations.
Higher loading and unloading efficiency: it can load and unload cargo quickly and effectively, and improve the operating efficiency of the ship.
Wide applicability: Applicable to most types of cargo loading and unloading, strong versatility.
Cost-effective: Compared with folding or telescopic jib cranes, straight jib cranes are usually more cost-effective when there is enough deck space.
Main components:
A straight boom marine crane consists of three main mechanisms:
Lifting Mechanism: Responsible for vertical lifting and lowering of the cargo.
Slewing Mechanism: Achieves full 360 degree slewing by means of a slewing support device, which makes it easy to adjust the position of the cargo.
Luffing mechanism: Adjust the tilting angle of the boom (usually 0°-75°) through the luffing cylinder and hydraulic system to change the operating radius of the crane.
Application Scenario:
Straight boom marine cranes are widely used in various ships, such as:
Cargo ships: used for loading and unloading various types of cargo.
Engineering ship: used for lifting materials in offshore engineering operations.
Offshore platform: used for equipment maintenance and material supply on the platform.
Comparison with other types of marine cranes:
Compared with folding boom cranes: Straight boom cranes are simpler in structure and lower in cost, but less flexible and not suitable for working in restricted space. Folding jib cranes are more flexible and can lift at complex angles, but are more complex and costly.
Compare with Telescopic Boom Cranes: Straight Boom Cranes usually have higher lifting capacity and are more suitable for heavy loads. Telescopic Boom Cranes are easier to adjust the boom length to suit different operational needs.
Maintenance and care:
To ensure the safe and reliable operation of a straight boom marine crane, regular maintenance and servicing is required, including:
Checking the hydraulic system, wire ropes, brakes and other key components.
Lubricate all moving parts.
