A timber grapple is a mechanical device specially designed for grabbing, handling and loading/unloading timber. It is widely used in forestry, logging, harbor terminals, timber yards, wood processing plants, paper mills and other industries.
Types of timber grapple:
According to different classification criteria, timber grapple can be divided into the following types:
According to the transmission method:
Hydraulic grapple: Through the hydraulic system to drive the mechanical arm and claw for movement, to achieve the grabbing and handling of wood. This kind of grapple operation is flexible, large grabbing force, widely used.
Mechanical grab: through the mechanical structure (such as wire rope, pulley, etc.) for transmission, the structure is relatively simple, but the operation is not as flexible as the hydraulic grab.
Structural composition of the timber grab:
Typical timber grab is mainly composed of the following parts:
Mechanical arm: usually made of high-strength steel, with sufficient strength and rigidity, able to withstand greater weight and impact.
Gripping claws (or jaws, fork tines): used to clamp the wood, usually with sharp edges or tips to ensure a firm grip.
Hydraulic system (or mechanical drive system): Used to drive the arm and jaws.
Rotating mechanism: Some grabs have a rotating mechanism that allows for 360-degree rotation, making it easy to adjust the gripping angle.
The working principle of the timber grapple:
Take the hydraulic grapple as an example, its working principle is as follows:
The operator sends a command through the control system.
The hydraulic system delivers pressure oil to the hydraulic cylinders of the arm and the grabbing claw.
The hydraulic cylinder pushes the arm to extend and the gripping claw to close, and tightly grasp the wood.
The timber is carried to the specified position by the movement of the robot arm.
The control system releases the gripping jaws and drops the timber.
Advantages of timber grab:
Improve work efficiency: Compared with manual handling, the timber grab greatly improves the efficiency of loading, unloading and handling of timber.
Reduced labor intensity: Reduces the physical labor intensity of workers.
High safety: Mechanised operation reduces the risk of human error.
Adapt to a variety of harsh environments: can work in a variety of complex environments.
Application areas of timber grapple:
Harbor terminal: used for unloading and loading of logs.
Forestry yards: for stacking, loading and unloading of timber.
Wood processing plants: for the handling and loading of wood materials.
Paper mills: for the supply of wood materials.
