How to Choose a Telescopic Folding Boom Ship Deck Crane?
If we need a shipboard extendable deck crane, how do we choose one suitable for us? The two main core parameters to consider are lifting capacity and boom length.
Lifting Capacity: Determine it based on your heaviest single piece of cargo. For example, if you are only lifting nets, small chests, or goods weighing up to 500 kilograms, a 0.5-ton to 1-ton model is sufficient. If you need to lift engines, large fishing gear, etc., you may need to choose a 3-ton or 5-ton model. Based on the weight of the items we need to lift, add an appropriate safety margin.
Boom Length: Determine it based on the maximum horizontal distance from the deck to the loading/unloading point (e.g., a dock or barge). Common specifications include 7 meters, 12 meters, 15 meters, and so on. The longer the boom, the greater the coverage, but the higher the price and the stricter the requirements for the ship's structure.
What should be noted when purchasing?
Sea condition level: This is the most important safety indicator for ship-mounted cranes. Regular manufacturers will conduct simulation tests based on the wind and wave conditions in your operating sea area (such as medium waves in grade 4 sea conditions) to ensure the crane can operate safely under those conditions.
Classification society certification: This is the "ID card" for a marine crane's quality. Certifications like CCS (China Classification Society), BV (French Bureau Veritas), ABS (American Bureau of Shipping), LR (British Maritime and Coastguard Agency), and DNV (Det Norske Veritas) indicate that the product meets international maritime standards and can effectively ensure safety. You can choose based on the requirements of the country where your ship is located.
Anti-corrosion treatment: The marine environment is humid and heavily salt-sprayed, making the marine crane's steel and paint crucial. Choosing products that use high-strength corrosion-resistant steel and epoxy zinc-rich bottom paint and topcoat can significantly extend the service life.
Control method: In addition to local control, equipping a wireless remote control is much more convenient, especially in bad weather, as it allows for remote operation, which is safer and more labor-saving.
