1. Mechanical Transmission Faults

Fault Causes

For port cranes, deck cranes, offshore cranes, boat cranes, and floating cranes, the transmission components of the luffing mechanism (such as gears and chains) are easily worn due to seawater corrosion. In addition, connection bolts may become loose or broken, leading to power transmission failure. Moreover, hinge point pins are likely to get rusted and stuck, restricting the rotation of the boom. These situations often occur in harsh marine environments where these cranes operate, constantly exposing them to seawater and salt-laden air.

Maintenance Solutions

Replace gears and chains with excessive wear; tighten or replace loose/broken bolts. Disassemble the stuck hinge points, remove rust, and apply waterproof lubricating grease for all types of marine cranes, including port, deck, offshore, ship, boat, and floating cranes. Replace severely rusted pins and bushings to ensure the regular operation of the luffing mechanism.

2. Hydraulic System Abnormalities

Fault Causes

In port cranes, deck cranes, offshore cranes, boat cranes, and floating cranes, the hydraulic cylinder seals age over time, causing internal leakage. Hydraulic pumps are also prone to wear because of seawater contamination, resulting in insufficient output pressure. Balance valves may fail to control luffing speed stably, and pipes can be blocked or ruptured, seriously affecting hydraulic oil transmission. The harsh marine environment with high humidity and salt content is the main factor leading to these problems in the hydraulic system of these cranes.

Maintenance Solutions

Replace hydraulic cylinder seals; repair or replace worn hydraulic pumps. Overhaul or replace faulty balance valves and readjust pressure parameters for the hydraulic system of these marine cranes. Clear blocked pipes, repair ruptures, replace aging pipes, and apply anti-corrosion treatment to ensure the regular operation of the hydraulic system of port cranes, deck cranes, offshore cranes, boat cranes, and floating cranes.

3. Electrical Control Failures

Fault Causes

Luffing motors are easily short-circuited due to moisture in the electrical system of port, deck, offshore, boat, and floating cranes. Control lines age or break due to salt spray erosion. PLC control modules may fail to correctly output commands and limit switches may malfunction, triggering incorrect protection mechanisms. The special marine environment with high humidity and salt spray significantly impacts the electrical components of these cranes.

Maintenance Solutions

Dry or replace short-circuited motors; repair or replace aging lines. Overhaul or replace faulty PLC modules and reprogram for debugging. Calibrate or replace malfunctioning limit switches to restore standard control logic for the electrical control system of these marine cranes.

4. Emergency Response and Prevention

When a fault occurs in a port crane, deck crane, offshore crane, boat crane, or floating crane, immediately stop the machine, cut off the power, and then fix the boom with a manual locking device. In daily maintenance for these cranes, strengthen lubrication and anti-corrosion for transmission components, regularly detect hydraulic system pressure and insulation performance of electrical equipment, and replace vulnerable parts promptly to prevent luffing failure and ensure the safe and accurate operation of the offshore cranes.
